History of Entheogens
An entheogen, meaning "generating the divine within", is a hallucinogenic substance used in a religious, shamanic, or spiritual context. Entheogens have been used in a ritualized context for thousands of years; their religious significance is well established in anthropological and modern evidences (see links below). Examples of traditional entheogens include: peyote, psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, Salvia divinorum, Tabernanthe iboga, and Amanita muscaria.
